National Tartan Day 2026: Celebrating a Living Heritage
On April 6, Scottish Heritage USA joins communities across the United States and Canada in celebrating National Tartan Day—a moment to recognize the enduring influence of Scots and Scottish Americans on our cultural and civic life. The day commemorates the Declaration of Arbroath of 1320, a landmark affirmation of liberty whose ideals helped shape American democracy and influenced our own Declaration of Independence in the United States This is especially resonant here in the US as we celebrate the 250th Anniversary of the signing of the US Declaration of independence.
Across the country, parades, concerts, lectures, and clan gatherings highlight the traditions that continue to connect families and communities. For Scottish Heritage USA, the celebration reflects our core mission: preserving historic places, supporting cultural programs, and strengthening the bonds between Scotland and North America.
As members and friends don their tartans this April, we honor not only the legacy we inherited but the vibrant, evolving heritage we carry forward. National Tartan Day reminds us that our shared story continues to grow—and we are proud to help steward that legacy for future generations.
